Our Origins
The science behind Kymeta’s technology was born from fundamental metamaterials research at Duke University and later incubated at Intellectual Ventures. At Intellectual Ventures, the first prototype of the reconfigurable metasurface antenna (MSA) was created, which would serve as the foundation for Kymeta’s mobile satcom terminals.
Kymeta’s metasurface technology represents a remarkable architecture for a new class of electronically scanned antennas; one that comprises the first commercially-available, metamaterial-based product. This ground breaking research, backed by an extensive portfolio of U.S. and international patents and licenses, laid the groundwork for Kymeta, which spun out of Intellectual Ventures in August 2012.
